Hair Extension Methods
Whenever you plan on having hair extensions, it is best to carry out some research first. There are different types of hair extensions that you can get and each has a different mode of application. Choosing the type of extension and the method of application should be informed by the benefits, disadvantages or how your hair may be affected.
Some of the hair extension methods of applications are:
Glue and Tape Application
This is the oldest and most common method of hair extension application. There is a special type of glue that is used to stick the extension onto your own individual hair strands. One disadvantage of this method is that you cannot use certain hair products which dissolve the glue causing the extensions to come off. It is better as a short-lived hairstyle.
Similar to the glue is tape application. It uses adhesive tape that has wefts of hair attached to it. One has the option of using two strips, over and under, to attach to the hair. For front sections, one might end up using just one strip of tape so that the hair can look as natural as possible.
Micro Links Extension
Micro links are also known as i-tips. For this method, one usually pulls the hair through a small bead or ball. The bead or ball then tightens the extension attached to it near the base of your hair’s root. It should not be directly at the root since it hinders natural movement of your hair. This mode of the application takes a long time since it involves a strand by strand application. Most packets of this hair have twenty to thirty strands. However, micro links last a long time before sliding off forcing you to get them re-done.
Sew-in or Braiding
Sewing in or braiding extensions is also another old and popular method of weaving. It is suitable for people with coarse and thick hair which allows the hairdresser to conrow the hair providing a base for the extension. Sewing in takes some time but has the advantage that it can be done so naturally that no one knows it is not your hair. Additionally, this method gives you options on styling your hair differently as well as taking care of your hair underneath the extensions. They can stay intact for long, especially if you take care of them well and are also very easy to take down once you want to remove them.
Clipping in hair extensions is the simplest method. It does not require you to go to the hairdresser as you can do it yourself at home every morning. This type of hair extensions usually has a clip that is applied near the base of your hair. They are convenient because you can have them for a while before you have to replace them and they do not cost you more money by forcing you to have the hairdresser install them.
With these different types of hair extension applications, it is up to you to decide which works best for you. The cost might also influence your decision. Usually, the more difficult or the longer it takes to install the extensions, the more you will pay to have them in.
